Gear Coop to Host Orange County Premiere of Reel Rock 9: Valley Uprising on October 24, 2014

Interactive Event Featuring Stonemasters Jim Bridwell and John Long, Costume Contest, and Dyno Comp, Predicted to Be Largest in Store’s History.

Costa Mesa, CA, October 18, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Gear Coop will host the official Orange County premiere of the 9th annual Reel Rock Film Tour on October 24, 2014, spotlighting the feature-length documentary Valley Uprising by Sender Films and The North Face. As with all Gear Coop film screenings, there’s so much more going on than just a movie: it’s a fully interactive showcase with a costume contest, dyno competition, athlete signings, raffle prizes, and more.

Valley Uprising explores not just the big-wall accomplishments that defined Yosemite as the pinnacle of climbing, but also delves into the societal sea changes that led to climbers attempting to ascend its famed granite walls. The Yosemite Valley—especially Camp 4—quickly became known as the epicenter of this “rucksack revolution” counterculture.

“Valley Uprising is a totally unique offering from Reel Rock, and believe the hype: it’s every bit as fascinating, funny, and engaging as everyone says,” commented Terry Lee, founder and CEO of Gear Coop. “Last year’s Reel Rock was our biggest event ever, and with a film as awesome as Valley Uprising on the roster this year, we’re anticipating shattering our attendance records.”

For one night, Gear Coop and The North Face will transform the South Coast Collection (SOCO) into Yosemite Valley’s Camp 4 circa 1975. Attendees are encouraged to get into the rebellious spirit of the film and come dressed in their “dirtbag best”—not only will costumed partygoers get a free beer, but the most convincing hippies will win epic gear from The North Face. And it doesn’t end there: for those who prefer activity to creativity, Gear Coop is turning its signature in-store bouldering wall into a dynamic dyno comp where attendees can fight gravity for some great Evolv climbing gear.

But the biggest draw of all isn’t just the competitions, or the raffle prizes, or the extensive vendor village featuring such brands as adidas Outdoor, Mountain Hardwear, and Petzl. It’s the presence of three of the original Stonemasters themselves—Jim Bridwell, John Long, and Mike Graham—all of whom appear in Valley Uprising and will bring along their own personal thoughts and anecdotes.

Tickets are $7 if purchased online and $10 at the door. Purchase tickets at http://www.gearcoop.com/valley-uprising-reel-rock-9.html. For more information, visit www.gearcoop.com.
