Plastic Surgeons Encourage UAE Patients to Adhere to Advice During Breast Augmentations Consultations to Avoid Complications

Consultations determine whether patient is a suitable candidate or not for breast augmentation.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, October 31, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Plastic surgeons in the UAE encourage their patients to carefully follow their surgeon’s advice during consultation. Breast enlargement remains one of the most popular plastic surgical procedures in the UAE and worldwide. The initial consultation is important and the conclusions from it determine whether or not the patient is a suitable candidate, in addition to defining post-operative developments and possible complications.

Plastic surgery and dermatology experts from the Middle East and around the world will tackle the region’s most pertinent topics in the fields of cosmetic dermatology and surgery at this year’s International Congress in Aesthetics, Anti-Ageing Medicine and Medical Spa (ICAAM) 2014 organized by Informa Life Sciences Exhibitions from 5-6 December at the Conrad Hotel, Dubai, UAE. Dr Afschin Ghofrani, Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeon, Medical Director, Aestheticon Dubai, UAE, will be speaking at about the correct planning of an augmentation at this year’s event.

“Aestheticon sees up to 30 patients per month seeking breast augmentation, but not everyone who seeks the surgery is a good candidate. Therefore, the consultation process is extremely important in order to avoid future complications,” highlights Dr Ghofrani.

As a result of major improvements in implant types and quality, the procedure has increased in safety and efficacy during the last 20 years. Complication rates vary between different studies but are around 5%-10%, mainly capsular contractures; which are normal a response from the body. It creates a protective lining around the implant and it occurs in everyone regardless of whether the breast implant is smooth or textured, silicone or saline.

The initial consultation enables the surgeon to decide which pocket plane and position to choose when planning the surgery and incision sites. Be it supra-, infra-muscular or dual plane, each of these have their justification for particular cases. The surgeon would make a decision about the implant shape, volume, gel type and dimensions.

According to Dr Ghofrani, “The location of the scar is equally is important to the patient. In addition, whether or not simultaneous lifting or shaping of the skin envelope is necessary will be determined. With this in mind surgeons have to manage up to 2500 possible combinations of above variables. We strongly believe that mastering the correct choice between the above mentioned variables and procedures are indispensable prerequisites to calling oneself a breast specialist.”
