Wilson, NC, November 19, 2014 --( The North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (NCVMA) has announced it has awarded a $2,500 Animal Welfare Grant to Wilson County Animal Shelter in Wilson. Animal Welfare Grants are given to public and private shelters needing financial assistance for supplies or improvements to animal housing facilities. In 2014, NCVMA has granted more than $7,500 to North Carolina shelters.

Wilson County Animal Shelter partners with Shelter Exchange, a non-profit organization that utilizes a software application to aid in community outreach. They aim to save animals from euthanasia and have a special focus on animals with medical, behavioral, or special needs. The Animal Welfare Grant will help cover the cost of structural improvements to assist the shelter in making improvements to housing facilities.

“We are honored to award the Animal Welfare Grant to the Wilson County Animal Shelter,” said Claire Holley, executive director of NCVMA. “We can’t wait to see how their commitment to helping all animals, regardless of their situation, will improve the Wilson community.
