MMC Depot Encourages Dispensaries to Go Beyond State Regulations Concerning Childproof Containers

Denver, CO, November 21, 2014 --(PR.com)-- When it comes to drugs of any kind, whether alcohol, tobacco, or even caffeine, it is important for the companies distributing these products to take safety precautions to ensure that they do not accidentally fall into the wrong hands. Currently states like Colorado or Washington have strong regulations for marijuana childproof containers, but other states are still developing their models.

MMC Depot (http://www.mmcdepot.com/) advises that what certain states are requiring for child safe packaging may not be enough and are encouraging dispensaries to at least offer packaging products that are beyond the state’s established rules for what is required for the overall safety of minors under the age of 21.

“It only makes sense for dispensaries to offer what is above and beyond state regs when it comes to marijuana packaging,” said Dovid Zussman, Vice President of MMC Depot. “By doing ‘just enough’ the dispensary industry opens itself up to ever stricter state guidelines and regulation, and there will always be a percentage of end users who are overly cautious about the marijuana they are keeping in their possession.”

Currently the state of Colorado is on the forefront of guidelines for the MMJ industry and has set the following general regulations that dispensaries have to follow to qualify their products as childproof containers:
1. The containers must be opaque so that children cannot see the contents within.
2. The containers must be too difficult to open for children under 5.
3. The containers must be re-sealable.
4. The containers must be properly labeled.
5. The containers must be ATSM Certified as child safe packaging.

Although these rules help prevent the unintentional ingestion of MMJ products, there is still risk involved; these containers may prevent children 5 and under from ingesting the contents, but not older children. Additionally, despite the opaque nature of the packaging teenagers, in particular, are likely to know exactly what the containers are holding, especially if they read the label.

For end users who have teenage children, MMC Depot recommends that dispensaries offer products like CRRXWear containers by CoolJarz in their inventory of child proof containers. Unlike other child-proof containers, the CRRXWear containers keep out unwanted users of all ages thanks to its smart lock and key system. While perhaps not for everyone, products like CRRXWear go beyond even the most stringent industry regulations and provide an extra level of security to end users who may be worried about how to protect their MMJ products from minors, or even untrusted roommates.
