CrescoCap Sponsors Canadian Olympic Skier Larisa Yurkiw

Alpine skier Larisa Yurkiw receives sponsorship from Cresco Capital Management (UK) Limited for competition in the FIS 2014/2015 season.

London, United Kingdom, January 14, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Through Team Larisa Racing, a brand founded by Larisa in April 2013, CrescoCap participated as a sponsor towards the funding for this season’s training and travel expenses to competitions in Europe and North America. Entering in FIS World Cup Downhill and Super-Giant Slalom events Larisa’s competitive winter season began early December 2014 in Canada before traveling to the International Alpine ski competition in Val d’Isere, France by the end of the month. In a field sporting over 50 competitors from around the world Larisa finished 4th place in Lake Louise, Canada and 13th place in France in both downhill events, clocking times that were less than a second off the eventual race winner. The season for the Ladies’ World Cup circuit continues into the new-year at the ski resort of Bad Kleinkirchheim, which is located in Carinthia the southernmost region of Austria.

Before debuting on the FIS World Cup stage in January 2007, Larisa competed as a junior for over three years posting numerous podium wins including a silver medal at the 2008 FIS Junior World Ski Championships in Formigal, Spain. A year after earning two gold medals at the 2008 Canadian National Championships in Super-G and downhill, Larisa’s career would be potentially cut short following a crash during a training run which required a series of surgeries to repair her severely damaged left knee. Following a two year absence from professional skiing Larisa returned to the slopes for training, however it was clear that the rehabilitation process would take longer. It was not until 2013 that Larisa was fully recovered and ready for competition with her sights set on skiing for Canada at the Sochi Winter 2014 games. Unfortunately, following a prolonged break from professional skiing meant that she was dropped from Canada’s national team despite being the reigning national downhill champion. Undeterred by the situation Larisa knew her only chance to earn an Olympic birth was to produce sufficient performances on the World Cup stage, however this required significant financing for herself and a coach to travel the circuit.

Recognising Larisa’s skiing abilities but more importantly her unfailing competitive drive, CrescoCap began sponsoring Team Larisa Racing and followed her success in securing a place at Sochi in 2014 after she posted two top ten positions on the FIS circuit. The commitment by CrescoCap as the major sponsor of Team Larisa in achieving their goals is continued from late 2013 into the current season.
