IPHost Network Monitor - New Version with Updated Monitors and New Interface Is Available

A new major release of the network and server monitoring tool – IPHost Network Monitor. A new interface and new concept of alerting are introduced. Updates of most of the monitor types are included. Web Transaction Monitor is substantially improved.

Novosibirsk, Russia, February 10, 2015 --(PR.com)-- IPHostMonitor Inc. announces a release of IPHost Network Monitor version 4.0, a reliable distributed network monitoring tool that supports the performance and uptime monitoring of Windows and Unix/Linux servers and workstations, network equipment and services, websites and web applications. The new release introduces a major upgrade of the software with updated monitors, a new alerting scheme and a new interface.

The new version of IPHost Network Monitor has an advanced easy to use interface providing a clearer view of the system configuration and current system state. The new interface seamlessly blends with the look & feel concept of the latest generations of Microsoft Windows. The new menu and main window are streamlined and have fewer elements, but they are more usable. Now the interface better suits user needs even for non-admin users.

Now the main window has two areas: a tree area with monitors organized in several tree views and a Parameters/Results pane containing the report and parameters of a selected tree item. The Main view contains a tree that defines the inheritance hierarchy for most parameters to minimize duplication of settings.

The basic functions of a network monitoring tool are to check the state of a monitored resource and then alerting the network or server administrator to issues occurring on the resource. The alerting concept in the new version of IPHost Network Monitor becomes more transparent and easier to use. The number of problem states is reduced to 2 (Down and Warning). A new tab is introduced for alert definitions (alerting rules) to be applied in case of issues arising on a monitored resource. Each alerting rule can specify alerts for the following events: a monitor enters a problem state, remains in the state for a specified time, and returns to an up state. Also, there is a special event for the SNMP trap monitor; the user can set a problem trap alert if a certain issue occurs on a monitored resource. Combined alerts are introduced – each consists of several simple alerts linked to a schedule.

For example, the admin can create an alerting rule that issues two alerts when a resource enters the Down state: send an e-mail (scheduled for business hours) and send an SMS (for evenings). An escalation alert can also send an e-mail (say, after 30 minutes in the down state), but this time to the CEO address.

The user can specify various state conditions for each monitor, up to 9 conditions depending on the monitor type, starting from a standard response time condition up to response content validation (for HTTP, SNMP, and other monitor types). Several other conditions are available, for example, a condition specifying that a returned value should be in or out of certain bounds.

Most of the monitor types have been updated for the release, which allows solving various issues related to several monitoring protocols.
