Rescue Proud is Awarded the Maxwell Medallion for Best Article in Rescue Category.

Irvine, CA, February 21, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Rescue Proud (formerly Rescue Me magazine) and Ready, Set, Rescue annual magazine, I-5 Publishing’s newest publications dedicated to all aspects of pet adoption and animal rescue were recently nominated for five 2014 Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA) awards. “The Legacy of Lucas” by Diana Laverdure (Rescue Proud) was awarded Best Article/Column in the Rescue category. The 2014 DWAA award winners were announced at a ceremony and banquet on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Hotel Pennsylvania in New York.

The Maxwell Medallion is awarded to the winning entry in each of the 48 categories at the DWAA banquet, which is held every February prior to Westminster Kennel Club dog shows. Sponsors donate cash prizes to other entries in special categories. Named after former DWAA president Maxwell Riddle who helped formed the organization in 1935, the Maxwell is a longstanding tradition.

Devoted to assisting homeless animals and the people who care for them, Rescue Proud and Ready, Set, Rescue came into existence in early 2014. Their rapid rise to publishing prominence is a result of combining entertaining and educational content with a reader-friendly format that engages an audience eager to learn about caring for and living with rescue pets.

“It’s been an amazing inaugural year for both publications,” says Jackie Brown, editor of Rescue Proud and Ready, Set, Rescue magazines. “Besides being committed to presenting excellence in content, contributing in a way that exceeds mere publishing has become the biggest reward for us. The spirit of ‘giving back’ is truly reflective of the rescue community and something we will continually strive to replicate.”

Rescue Proud gives back a substantial portion of each subscription fee to the shelter or rescue of the subscriber’s choice. It’s free for groups to participate and groups are encouraged to share their unique four-digit code, telling people how to subscribe via social media, newsletters and on their websites.

The writers and editors of Rescue Proud and Ready, Set, Rescue were nominated for the 2014 DWAA awards for their work in the following categories:

"Every year the DWAA Writing Competition draws hundreds of entries from dedicated dog writers throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe,” says Competition Chairperson Elaine Gewirtz. “Through fiction and nonfiction, poetry and photographs, and online and print, writers tell stories about the dogs that change our lives. Our contest pays homage to these canine communicators and represents the tales that truly tug at our hearts.”

The DWWA award winners are judged by a select-DWAA contest committee. This year’s competition period ran from September 1, 2013 through August 31, 2014. The winners in each category were announced at the awards ceremony immediately following the banquet on February 15, 2015.

“We are honored to be recognized by the DWAA with these distinguished nominations,” adds Brown. “We’re motivated to exceed the work we’ve done last year and to continue to deliver important information to people who care about homeless pets. As writers and as animal rescuers, we are humbled and grateful to the DWAA for their support and recognition.”
