Russian Airfreight Market is Entering Turbulent Zone

Miroslav Zolotarev the Head of ACEX Alliance gave an interview to the RZD-Partner magazine. He commented on the results of 2014 for the airline companies and their strategy for 2015.

Moscow, Russia, February 28, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Tough economic situation in 2014 caused changes on both passenger air transportations and airfreight markets. In January – October 2013 freight turnover was equal to 4,119 MIO tonne-kilometer, for the same period last year it amounted to 4,179 MIO tonne-kilometer (+1,5%), which is evidence of practically zero airfreight growth. The analysts say that the market has tendency of reorientation for domestic transportations. Business activity in Russia is growing in spite of the crisis and it is expected that the Russian enterprises will develop and become more competitive. But not many experts forecast such positive scenario.

“Import substitution is still a theory because the economy cannot change within several months,” emphasized Miroslav Zolotarev. He thinks that following the results of 2014 the dynamics of freight traffic volume will be decreased but yet it will stay positive.

According to analytics’ opinion airline companies are in difficult economic condition caused by fluctuation of world currency as well as by miscalculation of own business models. Airline companies are starting to decrease their costs. That means that the number of flights and employees will be reduces.

The experts predict that the Russian airfreight market may face decrease of operational performance, particularly on the international lines in 2015. According to Miroslav Zolotarev’s estimates it is expected that in 2015 total number of flights will be decreased.

“As for airfreight I think that air carriers should cooperate with 3PL providers and add value for the product. Cooperation is the only way to undergo difficult economic situation,” convinces Miroslav Zolotarev.
