)-- Local resident, Kannon George Gilbert, son of George Gilbert, Project Superintendent at Elliott Homes LLC has been coming up with creative ideas for many years. After hearing about the children at St. Jude Children’s Hospital he spent many hours thinking of something that Zachary, the seven year old patient who the Dream Home is named after, would like to have in his own home. “I thought it would be fun to have a secret door that no one else knew about to see if anyone could find it,” states Kannon. “I know he will love what is behind the door too,” he adds referring to the hidden “man cave” in this year’s Dream Home.
The 2015 St. Jude Dream Home will have its official Grand Opening celebration on Saturday, March 7th. Contractors have been working around the clock to ensure the 3,500 square foot, four bedroom, three and a half bath home is completed in time for the big reveal.
Brandon Elliott tells us, “There are many surprises in the Dream Home this year but none more special to our team than the secret door Kannon not only designed but worked side by side with his father George and our master carpenter, Ron McKee to complete."
Kannon’s determination didn’t stop there. He continued to work with Elliott Homes Sales and Marketing Manager, Susan Siemiontkowski, to find the perfect items to display on the shelves. Susan explains, “I have always admired Kannon’s imagination and creativity. During a break from building the shelves he came to me and asked to be part of creating a display that not only pays tribute to St. Jude but also have items that would be inspirational to children.” She adds, “He’s wise beyond his years and has a big heart. He’s been helping on the project every chance he gets which has inspired our team to be the best they can be.”
To have fun at the Grand Opening, Kannon has come up with the idea of offering a prize to the first person who finds the secret door. He is hoping that it will be Zachary, Dalton or Caiden, all three local St. Jude patients. Brandon Elliott has donated a gift card to the winner. “This home is built to help sick children. If we can have this little contest and put a smile on their faces then I know we did well,” says Brandon.
This year’s St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway prize if valued at $470,000 and is located in the exclusive Elliott Homes’ Malpass West community in Biloxi, Mississippi. This family-friendly community features several homes named after local St. Jude patients. Directly across from the Dream Home is the St. Jude Pond, perfect for relaxing and thinking about next year’s Dream Home. “Unfortunately, there will be a need for more Dream Homes to be built but I have high hopes that one day St. Jude will find a cure for cancer and we can all lay down our tools,” states Brandon.
