William Peace University to Sponsor 2015 East Coast Gaming Conference

Four-Year Baccalaureate University to Participate in National Gaming Conference for Second Consecutive Year.

Raleigh, NC, March 10, 2015 --(PR.com)-- William Peace University, (http://www.peace.edu/) a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, is proud to announce that for the second consecutive year, it will sponsor the 2015 East Coast Game Conference (ECGC), a gathering that is the largest of its kind on the east coast, and provides educators, prospective game development students, parents and anyone interested in game development, a glimpse of opportunities for employment and education in the rapidly growing field of game development. The University will participate in the conference’s newly announced “Community Day” on Thursday, April 7.

Specifically, WPU will host conference participants on campus to meet and speak with SGD faculty, including Assistant Professor of Simulation and Game Design, Justin Johnson, and tour the University’s renovated Simulation and Game Design (SGD) Lab, which houses many state-of-the-art technologies, including a full-scale video motion capture system, a 3-D printer, personal sketch tablets, and 3-DS animation software, among other items. The space was completed in the summer of 2013, and has been successfully used in partnerships with places such as Duke Hospital, which is currently using the Lab to create procedural simulations for various types of medical training.

“We are very proud of what the SGD program, as well as our many other fields of study, has to offer,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., President of William Peace University. “The Lab is one of the most technological spaces on campus and is sure to ‘wow’ many conference participants. We can’t wait to host the event.”

"We welcome all who wish to learn more about our exciting program. Student learning is focused on the Entertainment and Serious Gaming career fields," said Roger Christman, Associate Professor and Department Chair at William Peace University. "Our Bachelor’s degree prepares students to be significant contributors in the Simulation and Game Design industry.”

The conference begins on Thursday, April 7 and will run through Saturday, April 9, at the Raleigh Convention Center. In 2014, more than 1,300 people attended the event. For more details on the conference, please visit: http://www.ecgconf.com/.

About William Peace University:

William Peace University is located in the heart of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. It was founded in 1857 as Peace Institute, offering education for boys and girls in primary grades and to women from high school to college. Peace, an all-women's college, became a four-year baccalaureate college and graduated its first bachelor's students in August of 1996. Exclusively an all-women's institution for its first 152 years, Peace began offering coeducational evening courses through the William Peace School of Professional Studies in 2009. In 2011, Peace College transitioned to William Peace University and welcomed its first coeducational class to its day program in fall 2012. Its mission is to prepare students for careers in the organizations of tomorrow. On average, more than 90 percent of the university's graduates are placed in jobs or graduate school within one year of graduation. In fact, the University is ranked No. 1 in the nation among colleges with the highest rate of internships, according to a 2013 study conducted by U.S. News & World Report.
