Hepatitis B Foundation to Honor Dr. Eugene Schiff with Blumberg Prize

Pioneering work in hepatitis B to be recognized with the foundation’s highest scientific honor.

Details: The Hepatitis B Foundation, the only national nonprofit organization solely dedicated to finding a cure for hepatitis B and improving the quality of life for those affected worldwide, will host its annual Crystal Ball on Friday, April 17, at Warrington Country Club in Warrington, Pa.

The Foundation will honor Dr. Eugene Schiff with the 2015 Baruch S. Blumberg Prize for advancing the care and treatment of chronic hepatitis B. Dr. Schiff is Director of the Schiff Center for Liver Diseases at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and was unanimously selected for the Blumberg Prize in honor of his pioneering work in hepatitis B and its medical management.

In addition, Foundation leaders also will announce the recipients of the 2015 Community Commitment Award, distinguished professors Drs. Bruce and Cyndie Maryanoff, of the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute, in Doylestown, Pa. The Maryanoffs, who live in New Hope, Pa., are distinguished scientists who have provided dedicated service to the scientific community and generous support to their local community.

Each year, the Crystal Ball attracts hundreds of leaders from the community, academic institutions, government, health care industry and biotech executives. The gala evening is a fundraiser for the Foundation, with all proceeds benefitting its global research, outreach and patient advocacy programs.

This year’s event, the “Paper Lantern Festival,” includes an evening of dinner and dancing, a silent and live auction and awards ceremony.
