Denver, CO, March 19, 2015 --(PR.com
)-- When it comes to their emotional and mental wellness, Denver’s bustling creative community now has a place they can call home.
Artist and licensed psychotherapist Diana Pitaru, M.S., L.P.C., C.S.T., C.H.T., has recently opened her psychotherapy practice which specializes in dealing with the emotional, mental health, and psychological issues faced by artists and creative people.
“Creative people, in general, have some very specific emotional struggles that tend to get swept under a rug or ignored by a clinician who is not familiar with this population’s culture and lifestyle,” Pitaru said. “What I offer is a culturally competent and comprehensive treatment that takes into consideration the unique personalities and issues of each individual. As an artist myself, I bring a professionally distinctive approach to the practice of psychotherapy.”
Pitaru’s work with artists and creative people enables them to overcome creative blocks, channel fears into productivity, discover new strengths, gain confidence to pursue goals and get into a healthier emotional and mental state. She is also adept at couples, teens, and LGBTQ therapy.
Unlike most psychotherapists who offer treatment options that focus only on symptoms, Pitaru specializes in depth therapy. “Depth psychotherapy is a form of therapy that aims to alleviate symptoms in the first phase, and get to the root of the problem so that people don't have to come back to therapy for that same issue again,” she explained. “It’s a style of psychotherapy that is effective for everyone, and yet, is most ideal for creative people.”
Pitaru also uses hypnosis with talk therapy. Hypnosis, also referred to as hypnotherapy, is the guided use of intense focus and concentration to achieve a heightened state of awareness. It is used by psychotherapists for analyzing the root cause of an issue, or for recommending changes to the patient’s behavior or perception.
She added, “I have developed a very unique method of working with defense systems that works faster than talk therapy alone. I am also passionate about philosophy so, when appropriate, I combine philosophical themes and knowledge into the therapy sessions.
Licensed in the states of Texas and Colorado, Pitaru has a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is a certified Humanistic Sandtray Therapist and a certified Clinical Hypnosis Therapist. Prior to opening her own psychotherapy practice, she served a five-year term on the board of the Graduate Student Committee with the American Counseling Association. A pioneer in her field, she co-created the Counselors and Psychotherapists Network of North Texas, and built the Creativity Incubator—a free bi-weekly support group for Denver-based artists and creative people. It now has over 130 members despite being established only in January of this year. Pitaru is also a contributor to online mental health resource site PsychCentral.com
