Shorecrest Thespian Troupe 3140 made history at the recent Florida State Thespian Festival March 28 in Tampa, FL. The troupe performed their fall musical Anything Goes for an audience of more than 2,500 in Morsani Hall. The performance earned a Superior rating from the State judges, the highest rating possible. Kylie Heyman [‘15], who starred as Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes, was also chosen to represent the District in the Festival’s Opening Ceremony Showcase. She went on to win the prestigious Jimmy Award of The National High School Musical Theater Awards; only one boy and one girl in the State receive the honor. With more than 8,000 participants, the Florida festival is the most competitive high school thespian festival in the world.

In addition to the many awards for the troupe members’ acting, Shorecrest also received two Playwriting Critic’s Choice Awards at the State Festival, thus a sweep of the category by playwriting students Alice Darrow [‘15] and Savannah Pearson [‘15]. Additional awards and Shorecrest thespian results are listed online at http://www.shorecrest.org/page/News-Detail?pk=780935&fromId=179044.
