Walford Farm Stalwart Retires

Oswestry, United Kingdom, April 18, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Mike Lutman, known to many past and present students of North Shropshire College’s (NSC) Walford Campus, as the Head Herdsman at Walford Farm, has recently retired after being employed by the College for over 37 years. Mike has a real passion for the dairy herd and has competed in the rings at many local shows with Walford cows, and in 2013; Mike was awarded the Oswestry Show Interbreed Dairy Champion.

Mike has seen many developments and advancements in dairy farming in his 37 years at the College, namely Walford Farm’s R. D. Park Dairy which was opened in 2013 by Owen Paterson, MP for North Shropshire. The dairy houses a Fullwood AMS Merlin milking robot and the 24:24 Fullwood DTL Herringbone parlour.

Chris Jones, Director of NSC’s Walford Campus, commented on Mike’s retirement, saying "Mike has worked for the College for over 37 years as herdsman, but also over this time; he has taken up other responsibilities such as warden and College barman. Mike has been very active within the students’ experience of life at Walford especially regarding the agricultural students. It never ceases to surprise me how much energy and enthusiasm Mike has generated over his time at the College, we wish him the very best in his retirement."
