Iceland's Mila Chooses Ekinops 100G Solution to Interconnect Reykjavik Data Centers

Mila, the Iceland service provider, is boosting its data carrying capacity as it interconnects its data centers, and chose Ekinops for the optical transport equipment to make that happen.

Paris, France, April 25, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Mila, one of the leading telecommunications service providers in Iceland, has chosen Ekinops to provide high-capacity connectivity to data centers in Reykjavik, Iceland's capital. Ekinops announced its contract and partnership with Mila today to provide 100 Gbps equipment for the interconnection of various data centers.

Mila, whose core activities involve building and operating the most modern telecommunications network in Iceland, operates more than 500 technical facilities all over Iceland. Iceland offers its low-cost, clean-energy data center services to companies all over the world.

Iceland's climate is ideal for data centers due to the naturally cool environment. In addition, because Iceland relies entirely on geothermal and hydro sources, it has the most "green" energy in the world. The cost and environmental considerations are key to companies using the services of data centers.

For Mila, rapid growth in traffic among Icelandic data centers drove it to look for a higher-capacity solution, one that would provide connectivity to backbone networks and to submarine connections.

"Ekinops provided a very cost-effective solution and excellent support to meet our needs," said Snorri Olgeirsson, Chief Network Designer at Mila. "The ability to quickly augment capacity is essential to our continued growth as data centers’ traffic increases rapidly."

Dadi Sigurdarson, Director of the Transport Network at Mila, commented: “We are particularly impressed by the optical performance of the Ekinops 100G product. It has the right capabilities to be put in use over longer distances here in Iceland in the future. Also, it is in line with Mila's dedication to clean energy and the compact equipment is highly power-efficient in addition to being reliable and robust.”
