Writers Gather on Connecticut Shoreline for Literary Retreat

Old Saybrook, CT, May 06, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Emerging writers will gather in Old Lyme on June 6th for Creating a Writing Life Retreat for Emerging Writers. This summer event attracts writers working in fiction, non-fiction, poetry and memoir who are interested in taking their writing to the next level. It is facilitated by Old Saybrook resident Patricia Ann Chaffee, a freelance writer and retreat facilitator, contributing writer for Pathfinder: a companion Guide for the widow/er’s journey, and former journalist.

“It is really an opportunity for inspiration and encouragement, spending a day in an extraordinary location, writing from prompts, sharing our experiences as writers, encouraging each other and exploring what the writing life is really all about,” said Chaffee.

This year, Adam von Gootkin will be the featured guest speaker. Von Gootkin is the co-owner of Onyx Spirits Company based in East Hartford and he will share his experiences working with literary agents and traditional publishers. His book, Living Proof - Onyx Moonshine's Journey to Revive the American Spirit is scheduled for release in October. This event is an opportunity to get up close and personal with published authors, and network with other writers.

Creating a Writing Life programs, have been ongoing for eight years, giving writers a place to honor their literary work. For many, it is honoring a call to take their writing more seriously while immersing themselves in the joy of it. The full day retreat provides an encouraging atmosphere, bringing writers of all abilities and genres together to celebrate and improve their craft through both information and inspiration. This year’s venue is a vintage cottage located directly on Long Island Sound that exudes a Thoreauvian simplicity.

The all-inclusive retreat is being held Saturday, June 6 from 9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. and the cost is $145. Registration deadline is May 22. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Stroke Association.
