SGS Reviews Compliance of Environmental Product Declarations with PEP Ecopassport® Program Requirements

SGS to provide verification services of EPDs against the PEP Ecopassport program globally.

Arcueil, France, May 08, 2015 --(PR.com)-- SGS expands its PEP ecopassport® program verification services in Europe and North America following accreditation of two more ecodesign consultants, Caroline Girot and Michael Richardson, as PEP verifiers.

PEP Ecopassport Verification

With immediate effect, this enables SGS to conduct verification of clients’ PEPs, a pre-requisite for their formal registration. Accredited PEP verifiers check the compliance of a PEP declaration to the scheme’s rules, as well as the requirements specified in ISO 14025, taking into account industry best practices. This accreditation builds on the company’s existing PEP ecopassport program compilation service, offered as part of its Product Sustainability range of services.

Caroline and Michael join Xavier Vital, SGS Global Environmental Services Manager, in delivering product environmental profiles (PEPs) for clients, a service that has been offered since 2011. These new accreditations allow the company to extend its verification services to PEP ecopassport documents prepared in Asia, North America and Europe.

“PEP ecopassport verifier accreditation endorses the quality of our consultants and services. It is a really positive development for SGS, and our clients,” said Xavier Vital, Global Environmental Services Manager. “We can now offer a ‘one stop’ PEP ecopassport service for electrical, electronic and H-VAC manufacturers choosing to promote and communicate their products’ full environmental profile. This will smooth the process and save our clients both time and money.”

About the PEP Ecopassport Program

The PEP ecopassport program is an international program compliant with the requirements of the ISO 14025 standard (Environmental Product Declarations). SGS supports the development of this program internationally. Three SGS experts are now accredited to verify the compliance of environmental product declarations with the requirements of the PEP ecopassport program.

The non-profit PEP ecopassport Association defines, in compliance with the ISO 14025 requirements, the PEP ecopassport Program management process, for electrical, electronic and HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration) products, with respect to professional ethics and transparency. The PEP association is open to all stakeholders (industrials, users, institutions, professional associations).
