Therapeutic Tutoring in Boca Raton Helps Children with Learning Disabilities and Mental Illness Close the Learning Gap

Children with special learning needs have a therapeutic option in place to help them exceed.

Boca Raton, FL, November 28, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Children with bipolar illness, ADHD, anxiety, depression and learning disabilities often have difficulty learning in a mainstream educational environment. Boca Raton’s Family Knowledge Academy run by Nikki Woller, LCSW has a first hand understanding of that. She has a practice full of children that are having difficulty learning, and is raising two children of her own with learning and emotional differences. “These children become easily frustrated, and at times begin to act out because of it,” stated Woller. Quality programs designed to meet the needs of these children are few and far between. “There is a need for a therapeutic model of learning for children with specialized emotional and intellectual needs. There children are extremely intelligent, and are often educationally left behind because their needs and the needs of their families are not being addressed.” stated Woller, "Our initial data is showing that some of our children have increased two grade levels in reading within 26 weeks." Due to the educational demands of her clients, and of her own children she has created an affordable therapeutic tutoring program that individually addresses each child’s particular need. She has incorporated a team approach to this system, often sending letters and updates out to the child’s pediatricians, psychologists, psychiatrists, teachers, and the schools ESE coordinators. “It is an amazing program” stated Alice Stanton. Alice has had her child in Ms. Woller’s program for six months. Alice boasted, “Nikki is so compassionate with both my daughter and me. She has not only taught my daughter how to read, she has written letters to the teachers, gone with us to meetings and has really listened to and designed what we need.” The Family Knowledge Academy is currently accepting applications for the remedial tutoring program.
