Attention Occupational & Physical Therapists: 6 Steps to Better Balance is Coming to Louisville, KY

On June 14, Better Body, Louisville will host a regional workshop to teach occupational and physical therapists a unique, simple and fun program to help older adults avoid falls. Continuing Education Units have been approved by KBLOT and KPTA.

Franklin, MI, May 19, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The popular, nationally recognized “6 Steps to Better Balance Program” is coming to Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Sharon Claye, President and Owner of Fall Prevention Training Services, LLC is bringing this exciting new exercise program to Better Body in Louisville on Sunday, June 14, http://fallpreventiontrainer.com/register-now/.

Claye, a certified Master Trainer in this system, will be teaching a workshop for fitness instructors as well as independent personal trainers, occupational therapist, physical therapists, activity directors, and anyone interested in helping older adults to avoid falling and improve their confidence and independence. “Every 14 seconds, an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall,” says Claye. “These accidents can be dramatically reduced through learning this set of easy, yet effective, exercises. Older adults need no longer live in fear of falling.”

Developed by Dr. Betty Perkins-Carpenter, founder and President of Senior Fitness Inc., 6 Steps to Better Balance is an evidenced-based program that utilizes repetitive practice of a series of movements and simple exercises, such as the “Chorus Line” and “Dancing with a Pillow,” to help older adults gain better balance. It is designed to reduce the probability of falls, the fear of falling and fall-related injuries. It also increases body flexibility, leg strength and overall endurance.

“We look forward to offering the 6 Steps to Better Balance Program because it offers enjoyable activities rather than ‘have-to’ exercises which will make it fun for our older adults,” said Grace Carswell, MA, O.T.R, Owner of Better Body. “We’re also excited that the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Occupational Therapist (KBLOT) and the Kentucky Physical Therapist Association (KPTA) have approved this workshop for eight Continuing Education Units (CEUs).”

Completion of the eight-hour training also qualifies the student for Continuing Education Credits (CECs) for several major personal trainer certifications.
