Football Scholars Retain County Cup

Oswestry, United Kingdom, May 21, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Students from the North Shropshire College (NSC) Football Scholarship, in partnership with The New Saints FC (TNSFC), have retained the County Cup with a hard fought win over Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology (SCAT) at the New Bucks Head Stadium. Chances at scoring were few and far between in the first half and it was nil-nil when the whistle blew at half time, the second half was a more exciting affair with SCAT making NSC student, Antoni Sarnowski, produce some fantastic saves to keep TNS in the game.

NSC’s Fisnik Hajdari then met a cross and powered a header into the top corner of the goal to make the score 1-0, SCAT equalised almost straight away to make the score 1-1 and sent the game into extra time. Harrison Millington scored in the first half of extra time and it looked like it was going to be the winning goal as NSC started to control the game, but in the last few minutes SCAT equalised. The lads thought the game would end up in a penalty shoot-out but James Papirnyk picked the ball up at the halfway line and danced his way through five SCAT players and smashed the ball into the bottom corner of the goal making the score 3-2 and sent the NSC players into crazy celebrations.

Dan Stevens, NSC Head of Sport, commented, "It was a well deserved win, I’m really proud of the lads. It’s a fantastic achievement for them to not only win the cup, but to have retained it. Applications are strong for September, but if anyone is inspired by this story and would like to apply, do so via the website as soon as possible."
