Remote Aerial Surveys is First UK Based UAV Operator to Offer LiDAR Service

Remote Aerial Surveys has become the first UAV operator in the UK to offer a UAV mounted LiDAR survey service.

Haywards Heath, United Kingdom, May 22, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Remote Aerial Surveys (www.remoteaerialsurveys.co.uk) has become the first UAV operator in the UK to offer a UAV mounted LiDAR survey service. Based in Sussex, the company can provide this service across the UK substantially improving the quality and speed of capturing survey data. Remote Aerial Surveys’ UAV mounted LiDAR combines the latest UAV technology with a state of the art LiDAR pod to capture survey grade positional accuracy together with a very high point cloud density.

Operations Manager Tom Gravett said: “Combining LiDAR with UAV technology will revolutionise the surveying industry with the improvements it will bring in data quality where accurate mapping is essential but has previously been difficult to achieve.”

The benefits of using a UAV mounted LiDAR unit are many and varied. Crucially they save time (and therefore money) while capturing more accurate & detailed measurements from the air, creating access to data impracticable to achieve with conventional surveying. The service is quicker than other methods because all the data needed is collected in a single pass. Furthermore the service collects significantly more data than conventional survey techniques. Ultimately this reduces the time required in the field and the higher density of data collected provides a much more detailed 3D view. This method results in a fantastic richness in the dataset which greatly enhances the detail that can be collected.

The Company uses a Routescene LidarPod which has been specifically developed for use on UAVs, being the most compact and lightest offering currently on the market. Mounting the Pod on a UAV is the only safe way to survey awkward, dangerous and hostile environments. This technology is invaluable in dangerous or rough terrain where access is difficult such as landslips or disaster zones. Using LiDAR eliminates the need to enter a site to obtain ground control points.

Remote Aerial Surveys is an aerial survey service offered by consulting engineers Richard Allitt Associates Ltd (RAA). Established in 1996, RAA is one of the UK’s leading providers of hydraulic engineering and flood risk consultancy for the urban drainage industry, specialising in hydraulic modelling, drainage design and flood mitigation services. Originally devised as a method of inspecting difficult-to-reach river channels, the service has developed and now offers an impressive range of surveys including precise high quality topographic, as-built, pre-condition & thermal surveys.
