Rollins College Student Awarded Gene Apelado Scholarship

Winter Park, FL, May 29, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Shree Raj Shrestha, a junior studying computer science and mathematics at Rollins College, has won a Gene Apelado Scholarship to study in Germany in the fall.

Shrestha spent much of this semester raising money for his native Nepal, which was recently devastated by an earthquake. “This natural disaster revealed how vulnerable Nepalese society is,” said Shrestha. “I can see myself in the future working toward empowering the people of Nepal with technology as a means for sustainable development.”

The scholarship was made possible by a generous donation from Gene Apelado, the president of Launch That, a prominent Internet marketing firm headquartered in Orlando. This scholarship is fully funded for five years and is used to enhance the mission of Rollins College to educate students for global citizenship and responsible leadership. Shrestha will be the 11th student to win a Gene Apelado Scholarship since 2012.

“When I heard Shree’s story and learned about his incredible level of achievement,” said Apelado, “you want to do whatever you can to help him make a difference in the world.”

For the fall 2015 semester, Shrestha will study at Jacobs University in Bremen, Germany where, in addition to his classes, he will research the implications of ever-increasing computational power on developing economies.
