Concordia Senior Living Community and Mature Moves OKC Present Educational Seminar, “Moving Mom & Dad: Partnering vs. Parenting”

Tasked with assisting aging parents with late-life moves, adult children often find themselves in uncharted territory. Together, Concordia Life Care Community and Mature Moves OKC are dedicated to equipping, empowering, and educating families who want to better partner with their parents in making senior living choices.

Oklahoma City, OK, June 11, 2015 --(PR.com)-- As the population ages, Oklahoma families are faced with the challenges of assisting aging parents with relocating into more manageable or supportive housing. Of the nearly 100,000 people over age 65 in Oklahoma County alone, it is estimated that at least 5,500 will sell a home this year. Some will buy or lease new residences, while others will move in with family or move to a senior living community.

To assist Oklahoma City metro caregivers and families better deal with the complexities involved in late-life moves, local real estate agent Nikki Buckelew, Owner of Mature Moves OKC with Keller Williams Realty, is partnering with Concordia Life Care Community to provide the free seminar “Moving Mom and Dad: Partnering vs. Parenting. In this one hour seminar, Buckelew will discuss five of the most common mistakes adult children of aging parents make when assisting with a late-life move and how to avoid them. The seminar is being held at the Keller Williams Realty Platinum office located at 4513 Memorial Circle in Oklahoma City. The casual and interactive educational forum will take place on Thursday evening, June 23rd from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Light snacks and drinks will be served.

Being offered free to the public, the seminar will include a discussion of the five most common mistakes adult children of aging parents make when moving mom and dad, including solutions and strategies for avoiding such pitfalls. Topics include effective conversation starters, locating local supportive housing options, finding and hiring qualified service providers, and insuring adequate documentation for assisting transitioning aging parents.

“As a real estate professional and advocate, it is my goal to insure that older adults and their families are adequately equipped and aware of all the senior living options and resources available to them. Adult children, grandchildren, family members, and caregivers often find themselves making hard decisions, while trying to navigate in confusing uncharted territory. Through seminars like this one, I hope to provide helpful insights and useful information about the relocation process, the many senior living options available to seniors, real estate sales processes, and more importantly, how to manage the family dynamics when helping your loved ones.

“Ultimately, I want families to be able to focus on what is most important – their elder loved one and what is best for them,” says Buckelew. “Late life moves, especially those involving frail elders, can be overwhelming, but fortunately there are people who can help. Families don’t have to carry all the burden.”
