Opening Reception

Philadelphia, PA, December 03, 2007 --(PR.com)-- While on her vacation in 2005, Beth Medoway, an art lover and collector, was inspired by the Danish art collaborative 20/20 Visions, and came home to Philadelphia eager to start her own version of this unique association. In the spring of 2006, long time friend, Colleen Hammond – artist and art educator, joined forces with Ms. Medoway and acted as the ‘machine’ force to begin taking steps to establish their business A Square Deal. Taking advantage of their ties with local artists, Beth & Colleen were able to host their first exhibition in December 2006 which featured approximately 40 artists, at a small but popular café in South Philly. Since then ASD has gathered a roster of over 80 artists, emerging and established, who have all agreed to create art within a small square format. All work is executed on 20cm square masonite panels that Colleen and Beth personally prepare & distribute to each artist. The work is varied in style, genre, and medium including paintings, collage, graphic art, photography and mixed media. These original works are then placed in group exhibits, primarily, in non-gallery venues such as cafes, restaurants, salons and other retail establishments in the Metro Philadelphia region.

A Square Deal's most recent exhibiton will be hosted in Center City at the office of Snyman Chiropractic Group & Associates. On display will be 20+ original works by eatablished & emerging artists. Everything from oils, stitched fabric pieces and encaustics will be out for your viewing. Come by Wednesday evening November 5 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm for a wine & cheese reception.
