Local Partners Hope to Protect Senior Independence at Upcoming Benefits Fair

Learn how to protect your home and qualify for public benefits

Detroit, MI, August 20, 2015 --( The Detroit Area Agency on Agency has teamed with Elder Law of Michigan, the National Council on Aging, the Center for Financial Health and the Southeast Michigan Senior Regional Collaborative to bring you the Senior Independence Benefits Fair. The event will take place on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, 2701 Chicago, Detroit. The event is free but registration is required to attend. To register, please call the Detroit Area Agency on Aging RSVP Hot Line at (313) 446-4444, ext. 5227 by September 11, 2015.

Seniors and older adults will have the opportunity to listen to professionals discuss the ABCs of reverse mortgage, public and private benefits, money management, fall prevention assessments, and how to save your home through Michigan’s A Step Forward Program.

Prescreening and enrollment for public benefits including Homeowner’s Assistance, Low Income Subsidy, SNAP Food Stamps program, Medicare Savings Program – MSP, Home Heating Credit, and Property Tax Credit will be available.

The target audiences for the fair include, but are not limited to, senior homeowners with reverse mortgages, seniors interested in finding out about reverse mortgages or other housing options, older adults who want to be screened for public benefits, and caregivers interested in finding out about community resources.
