North Shropshire College Poppies Commemorate Cambrian Railwaymen

Oswestry, United Kingdom, August 23, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Poppies that were created by Foundation Art Students at North Shropshire College (NSC) have been used to commemorate three men of the Cambrian Railways who died in the First World War, the recent commemoration is part of a long-running collaboration between NSC and the Cambrian Heritage Railway (CHR) to remember the sacrifice of 53 men of the historic Cambrian Railway Company during the First World War.

The recent ceremony at the CHR’s First World War Exhibition commemorated the sacrifice of three men in August 100 years ago; the ceremony was attended by CHR members, a representative from NSC, descendants of the three men being commemorated and the Mayor of Oswestry, Peter Cherrington. CHR Member, David Owen, read a small biography for each of the three men being remembered before the poppies where laid.

Andrew Tullo, member of CHR’s communications team, commented, "We are particularly pleased to be working with NSC in commemorating Oswestry’s history, it is a great way for young people to understand the part the Cambrian Railways played and will continue to play in the community."
