IMS, Inc. Celebrates NYSID Works! A Community “Thank You” Event on September 17, 2015

New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc. thanks NYS, recognizes employment of New Yorkers with disabilities through statewide community service.

Syracuse, NY, September 06, 2015 --(PR.com)-- IMS, Inc. will join New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc. (NYSID) by participating in NYSID Works! A Community “Thank You” Event on Thursday, September 17 to thank New York State for creating jobs for New Yorkers with disabilities –– a celebration of work by working.

In appreciation for thousands of job opportunities for New Yorkers with disabilities, NYSID will help facilitate its member agencies and corporate partners in a day of volunteer service by cleaning parks and beautifying communities across New York State.

Each NYSID member agency or corporate partner is choosing a local non-profit in need of a small beautification project, such as pulling weeds, raking leaves, planting mums, and general cleanup. Through these joint, statewide community service projects, NYSID sends a unified, heartfelt message of gratitude to legislators, business and community leaders across New York State for creating employment opportunities for New Yorkers with disabilities.

On September 17th, IMS management and staff will clean pedestrian walkways, repaint exterior benches, refresh mulch and update flowerbeds at Upstate University Hospital Community Campus in Syracuse, New York.

“Since 2006 IMS, Inc. has been a corporate partner of NYSID,” said John D. Mashia Jr., President and COO of IMS, Inc. “Currently, we employ up to 26 individuals with disabilities throughout our offices in New York State. Additionally we provide a classroom setting where select individuals can receive training services to assist in their transition to the workforce. NYSID Works! provides us the opportunity to celebrate these valued employees and their contributions to our organization by partaking in a day of service to improve our local community.”

IMS is participating in this volunteer event as a way of expressing their partnership and ongoing support of the NYSID mission. IMS believes employing New Yorkers with disabilities makes IMS a stronger organization and a more community-focused business.

NYSID member agencies and corporate partners will collaborate with local universities, community colleges, BOCES programs, and other educational institutions to partner with students on volunteer activities.

Similarly, NYSID and its member agencies will encourage veterans’ organizations and agencies with whom it routinely partners on Veterans’ Summits and Battle Buddy Centers to participate.

All participants in NYSID Works will wear apparel specially designed for the occasion by workers at the Nicholas Center for Autism and Spectrum Designs Foundation, a member agency in Port Washington that provides gainful employment and meaningful work opportunities to individuals with autism in a fully functioning apparel customization shop.

In addition, the initiative complements NYSID’s 40th-anniversary theme of “40 Years of Looking Forward” while also segueing into National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) in October.

“For 40 years, NYSID has been able to turn business opportunities into jobs for New Yorkers with disabilities through the Preferred Source Program,” said Ron Romano, NYSID president & CEO. “This day of community appreciation is our way of saying thanks and giving back, by showcasing the skills and talents of individuals with disabilities from our member agencies and corporate partners, and demonstrating how New York State benefits from their inclusion in our workforce. Together, throughNYSID Works!, we extend our thanks by enhancing the communities around us.”
