UAW FORD plus Corporate and Community Volunteer on Labor Day – A True Labor of Love

Detroit Holiday Meals on Wheels gets a parade of volunteers to pack and deliver hot meals for 3,500 homebound seniors.

Detroit, MI, September 06, 2015 --(PR.com)-- What: The Detroit Area Agency on Aging is partnering with UAW Ford to package and deliver hot, nutritious meals to 3,500 seniors in Metro Detroit. Hundreds of corporate and community volunteers with UAW Ford employees and family members will assist with meal packaging and delivery before the kick off to the Laborfest Labor Day Parade in Corktown. UAW Ford has donated time and money to support the delivery of 3,500 meals on Labor Day.

“We pay homage to labor on this day and everyday but we know it’s more than just building cars and trucks – it’s about building communities. That’s why we are sponsoring the Holiday Meals on Wheels and volunteering to pack and deliver meals to homebound seniors on Labor Day for the Detroit Area Agency on Aging,” - Jimmy Settles, Vice President and Director of UAW National Ford Department.

When: The packaging of cold items will take place on Friday September 4, 2015 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The packaging of hot meals will take place on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2015 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., with delivery of meals beginning at 8 a.m. This leads to the kick off of the Laborfest Labor Day Parade beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Where: Corktown– Volunteers will meet at Valley Services to assist with meal packaging. The address is 1980 Bagley, Detroit, Michigan 48216, at the corner of Rosa Park Blvd, south of Michigan Avenue, near old Tiger Stadium.

The Laborfest Labor Day parade will begin at Michigan & Trumbull and end at the UAW Ford Programs Center, located at 151 West Jefferson, Detroit, MI.

Who: DAAA Holiday Meals on Wheels feeds thousands of homebound seniors. Due to Federal funds being unavailable during the holidays, campaigns, fundraisers and private contributions help raise funds to feed seniors. This year’s holiday meal deliveries are made possible by the contributions of UAW Ford, Detroit Area Agency on Aging, and the hundreds of individuals, partnering organizations, corporations, and churches.
