WOU Degrees for Your Career Development

Penang, Malaysia, September 10, 2015 --( With over 16,000 students entering its doors, Wawasan Open University (WOU) is fast becoming the institution of choice for employees seeking to upgrade their skills and professional credentials, in order to improve their demand in the job market.

At WOU, learners can continue to work while they pursue any of the 47 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered on a part-time mode. Out of these, 30 programmes are already fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) following the graduation of the first batch of students.

I also like the flexible learning at WOU, which is perfect for working professionals like me as we can fit our study into our schedules,” he said.

Career-focused Yeap Mei Shan, 40, is an Accounts Executive at Unisem (M) Bhd, Ipoh. “WOU has a long established reputation for conducting quality degree programmes. I have a second chance to achieve my degree without having to leave my job,” said Mei Shan who is currently into the second semester of her Accounting programme.

She wants to become a qualified accountant, declaring that “WOU’s Accounting degree is the perfect stepping stone as I can apply for credit exemptions from professional accounting bodies.”

For those who are working or seeking employment in the technical fields, they may consider Bachelor of Technology degrees in mechatronics, computer systems & networks, and multimedia design.

Heng Yee Jie, 21, a Senior Technician at IQ-Group, Bayan Lepas, who enrolled with a Diploma in Mechatronic Engineering from Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC), discovers that the programme can help him in his current job of troubleshooting and designing automation products. “When I saw the part-time BTME, it was a great opportunity for me. I thought I might need to quit my job to study," he said.

The CEO of PSDC, En. Muhamed Ali Hajah Mydin, is confident the BTME will benefit PSDC’s diploma students and the workforce in the mechanical and electronics industry.

“Through this programme, students will stand to gain the necessary knowledge on mechatronic engineering principles and practical skills that will empower them to design systematic solutions for mechatronic engineering problems,” remarked En. Muhamed Ali.

Meanwhile learners can acquire soft skills such as critical thinking and analytical skills from taking up Arts degrees in liberal studies and psychology. WOU also offers Bachelor’s degrees in Primary Education and in English Studies for educators and those keen on upgrading their teaching skills and English language proficiency.

At the postgraduate-level, the University offers nine programmes, including the popular Commonwealth Executive MBA (CeMBA), MBA in Construction Management (MBA-CM), MBA in Manufacturing & Production Management (MBA-MPM), Master of Education (MEd), and the Commonwealth Executive Master of Public Administration (CeMPA).

These Master’s degrees are ideal for professionals aspiring to improve their managerial skills, whether it is the business, construction, manufacturing, education or public services sector.
