Strive for Greater Achievements with WOU Degrees

Penang, Malaysia, September 10, 2015 --( The desire for ‘self-improvement’ and Wawasan Open University’s (WOU) flexible study option drove Amanda Fong Kim Yen to pursue her higher education and career at the same time.

The 22-year-old Sales Executive is in the first semester of her study at WOU. She enrolled for the Sales and Marketing degree programme at the Ipoh Regional Centre through WOU’s unique Open Entry System, and joined more than 16,000 students who have registered with WOU since the University opened its door for the first intake in 2007.

Amanda Fong is determined to attain a degree as she discovers work life has become tougher and a tertiary qualification is ‘one way of staying competitive to face the career challenges ahead’.

“The Sales and Marketing degree is a stepping stone for me to climb the corporate ladder. It complements my experience and equips me to be a competitive player in the market,” said Amanda Fong who works in a public listed company in Ipoh.

She is grateful to the WOU Study Grant and Return to Study Allowance that helped to subsidise her first semester tuition fees. “I am overwhelmed with happiness by the blessings upon receiving the study grant and allowance from WOU. With the current standard of living, the study grant and allowance allowed me to start my higher education and ease my financial burden. This also motivates me to encourage others to embark on this journey with me because I believe if I’m standing alone, I shall not be afraid for what I believe in,” remarked Amanda Fong.

Amanda Fong chose to do her studies at WOU as she finds that the flexibility suits her career aspirations. “WOU’s Open Distance Learning (ODL) approach is convenient and affordable. It allows me to study and work at the same time. I can study at my own pace, my own preferred timing because when we are living at the best versions of ourselves, we will inspire others to live at the best versions of themselves,” she explained.

Studying at WOU is opening up new frontiers and experience for her as she is being prepared for the new challenges in the workplace and career wise.

“Having an effective time management skill, I’m able to instil discipline in me. I believe if there isn’t any struggle, there will be no progress. It all boils down to finding self-satisfaction at the end of the day,” she added.

The University currently offers more than 40 industry-relevant programmes. Working professionals can pursue their choice of programmes and upgrade their professional knowledge and skills without leaving their jobs.

Enrolment for September 2015 intake is now in progress. Working professionals can apply through Regular Entry or via WOU’s unique Open Entry Admission System that takes your work experience into consideration.
