New Voice in Golf Launches on the Space Coast

BrevardGolfLinks.com, a new digital magazine created in the mold of the hyperlocal news movement and dedicated to coverage of the what's best in the amateur game along Florida's Space Coast launched today.

Rockledge, FL, September 11, 2015 --(PR.com)-- New Voice in Golf Launches in Brevard.

A new voice in golf was heard today with the launch of BrevardGolfLinks.com, a digital publication dedicated to the amateur game on the Space Coast.

Published by Links Press Group in Rockledge, the new online publication is built in the tradition of the hyperlocal news movement sweeping the nation, but instead of local news, will feature golf news, features, results and listings from all the local golf clubs, junior golf programs and school programs in and around the Brevard County, Florida area.

“I played in a club in New Jersey for years and remembered the frustration of trying to find out what happened in the club championship and other events throughout the year,” said founder and Executive Editor Lyle Smith. “Usually, I’d have to wait until the next weekend to hopefully see only a notice posted on the bulletin board.”

So the concept was borne out of a frustration of communication.

“Or lack, thereof,” Smith said. “With the trend of shrinking page budgets in the news business over the past decade, these stories had a hard enough time surviving into print at all.”

Smith says he created the site specifically to celebrate the amateur game.

“There are dozens, if not hundreds of outlets covering the professional game and specifically the PGA Tour. But there is so little out there for the club golfer and the kid who plays golf on the school team,” he said. “We want to approach each and every story from an unique and specific angle. We want to celebrate what makes the game great; what it is that so many people find captivating.”

Smith tells a story of a time when he worked as a caddie as a youngster in New Jersey. He saw players come out every day to play over and over again, he said. He’d watch them beat balls on the range or head out on the course day after day.

“And they’d never get any better,” he said. “Ever.”

He laughed at this memory as if he saw one specific player in his memory.

“But they’d come out to tee it up the next day with every bit the same amount of passion and anticipation they had the day before. They played with true joy,” Smith said. “It’s those passionate, joyful players to whom we’re dedicated.”

The site offers links to featured stories and will grow to include commentary and fiction as well as coverage of charity events and relevant outings throughout the area. Publication will be on a rolling, ongoing schedule in the hyperlocal news tradition.

Smith and Links Press Group have plans to launch two more golf new sites right away covering two other Florida golf regions.
