Career Step Gives Recent High School Graduate "Allergic to All Food" a Scholarship

Career Step has awarded Alex Visker, a 19-year-old Utahan with severe food allergies, a scholarship for computer technician training.

Provo, UT, September 17, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Career Step, an online provider of career-focused education and corporate training, has recently awarded Alex Visker, a 19-year-old high school graduate unable to eat any foods due to severe food allergies, a scholarship to enroll in the Career Step Computer Technician training program.

While Visker is not allergic to all foods, he reacts negatively to all foods. He also has a low tolerance to many common environmental factors. In the event of a reaction, he experiences hives, bone and muscle pain, brain fog, constant nausea and extreme fatigue. Despite these challenges, Visker aims to take college courses online to become a computer programmer so he can work from home and keep his health under control. To help Visker achieve his educational and career goals, Career Step has awarded Visker a scholarship for its Computer Technician online training program.

“Alex’s story has been broadcast throughout our community over the past few months,” said Ben Hartman, Career Step Vice President of Enrollments. “When we realized that our training would be a great fit for his unique situation and help Alex toward his long-term education goals we were very excited. Helping individuals improve their lives through education is our focus at Career Step, and providing this scholarship for Alex just takes it one step farther.”

The Computer Technician training program Visker has enrolled in with Career Step will prepare him for CompTIA A+ certification, a computer technician industry credential that will provide a solid foundation for his career in technology while also enabling him to earn the money he needs for college. On average, computer technicians with CompTIA A+ certification earn $51,000 annually, which will help Visker efficiently save for college while managing his illness.

"I am excited to start my education with Career Step," said Visker. "It will be a great first step toward a better education. I still plan on earning my Bachelor’s degree, and thank Career Step for helping me get there. After I get through this course, I think I can get an at-home job and start contributing to my college fund."

Many students who must pay their way through college choose a Career Step program as part of their path to earn their bachelor’s degree. By completing a Career Step program, students have the skills that can dramatically increase their earning power while propelling them towards their long-term goal of a bachelor’s degree.

“We are excited to help Alex take the first step towards his goal of a successful career in technology,” said Stephen Tober, Career Step President and CEO. “Alex is a perfect candidate for Career Step training programs. He can work at his own pace and avoid the environmental triggers present in a traditional school setting that could lead to an allergic reaction and compromise his health. We are grateful to be a part of this optimistic young man’s journey.”

All Career Step training programs are exclusively online and can be completed at the pace of the participant. A key component of the Career Step mission is to make an education available to more people through unparalleled flexibility. Participants can begin courses throughout the year and can do the training course day or night. Visker will not have to worry about missing deadlines if he needs time to recuperate from a reaction, greatly reducing the stress of obtaining an education.
