Underneath the Accent of My Skin in the Fall

Award-winning poet, writer and multidisciplinary artist Orlando Ferrand will facilitate a series of 7 workshops totaling 14 hours that combine creative writing with various visual arts disciplines during the fall semester at Hostos Community College Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development.

Bronx, NY, October 05, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Underneath the Accent of My Skin will return to Hostos Community College during this fall semester. This free of charge series of multidisciplinary workshops created by award-winning writer and multidisciplinary artist Orlando Ferrand will be available to anyone living in New York who has the desire to engage in creative writing and visual arts.

Mr. Ferrand will explore with workshop participants the realm of "hyphenated identities" as well as the definitions of "refugee" and "immigrant" through the creative process.

The writer and artist believes that such a personal exploration of who we are through the creative process, helps us move beyond the traditional prejudices and bias confinements toward a multi-ethnic and cross-cultural approach to the visual and/or written narrative, thus allowing it to become a permanent record of ancestry, a repository of identity, and a catalyst for transformation of both the individual and the community.

The seven workshops totaling 14 hours will also accommodate writers and artists of all levels interested in developing new works based on in-depth explorations of memories, gender, race and sexuality. It will culminate with a public reading and exhibit of curated artwork.

Workshops are scheduled for September 20, October 4 and 18, November 1 and 15, and December 6 and 20 from 11 am - 1 pm at Hostos Community College, located at 500 Grand Concourse, Building C, Room C-391, Bronx, NY 10451.

Participants must register for workshops by calling: (718) 514-7534.

This project has been made possible thanks to individual contributions, grants from NYSCA/BCA, Visual AIDS, Materials for the Arts, and the generous support of Hostos Community College Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development.
