)-- Shareholder Services Association (SSA) today announced that Abby S. Cowart, an experienced veteran of the shareholder services and investor relations industries, has been named as the organization’s first-ever executive director.
Patrick Burke, SSA president, explained that a renewed commitment to advocacy and a desire to bring even greater value to SSA members led the SSA Board to its unanimous decision to invest in a full-time executive director. “As our industry evolves, we are facing many important issues ranging from outdated transfer agent regulations and changes in escheatment rules to new and complex threats such as cyber risk. All of these bring a greater need for education and advocacy.”
Burke emphasized that Cowart was the clear choice to move SSA’s vision forward. “In addition to Cowart being an experienced shareholder services professional, she is a multitalented individual with a very friendly demeanor. She is a very motivated and committed to serve as an effective change agent to unlock and deliver even greater value to SSA members and to the industry as a whole.”
Cowart will report to the SSA’s Board of Directors. She brings more than 11 years of experience serving in a variety of roles in the financial services, shareholder services and investor relations industries. Most recently she served as senior investor relations analyst at TSYS, based in Columbus, Georgia.
Cowart earned her bachelor’s degree from Columbus State University in Georgia, and her Master of Business Administration from Liberty University in Virginia.
“I am thrilled to start a new challenge within the Shareholder Services Association. I welcome the opportunity to have a broader impact on the shareholder services industry and to growing an association which has helped me develop as a shareholder services professional,” Cowart said.
