Meals on Wheels is Driving Away Hunger on the Holidays - Volunteer Drivers Wanted

Detroit Holiday Meals on Wheels needs assistance with delivery of 5,500 meals to homebound seniors in the Metro Detroit area on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26.

Detroit, MI, November 14, 2015 --(PR.com)-- What: The Detroit Area Agency on Aging and Ford Motor Company Fund Holiday Meals on Wheels program needs volunteers to help with the delivery and distribution of 5,500 hot, nutritious Thanksgiving meals to homebound seniors in metro Detroit.

When: The packaging of hot meals will take place on Thursday, November 26, Thanksgiving morning, starting at 6 a.m. and the delivery of individual meals (from the 11 distribution sites) will begin at 8 a.m.

Where: The community has stepped up but DAAA still needs Thanksgiving delivery volunteers from the following delivery locations:

· Christ Church, 960 E. Jefferson, Detroit MI 48207

· Franklin Wright Settlements, 3360 Charlevoix St., Detroit MI 48207

· New Light Baptist Church, 5240 W. Chicago Blvd., Detroit MI 48204

· Greater Emmanuel Church of God In Christ, 19190 Schafer Hwy, Detroit MI 48235

Typically there are 3 or 4 volunteers per vehicle to deliver the meals: one person drives, another person reads the map for directions and another person hand-delivers the meals to the senior to their door. Volunteers complete routes in less than two hours.

Contact: To volunteer yourself, your family or your community group, contact the DAAA at (313) 446-4444, ext. 5605 or email hmow@daaa1a.org.

Who: Holiday Meals on Wheels feeds thousands of homebound seniors. Due to Federal funds being unavailable during the holidays, campaigns, fundraisers and private contributions help raise funds to feed seniors. This year’s holiday meals are made possible by the contributions of the Ford Motor Company Fund and the hundreds of individuals, partnering organizations and churches.
