Minnesota Sinfonia Dedicates January Concerts to the Memory of Thelma Hunter

Minneapolis, MN, November 21, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Minnesota Sinfonia will present A Tribute to Thelma Hunter, featuring Loren Fishman performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 on January 15, 16, and 17.

This past August, the state lost a very important and honored member of its music community, pianist and arts advocate, Thelma Hunter. Thelma was a great friend to the Minnesota Sinfonia and over the past 27 years, performing numerous times with the orchestra. She was a consistent and vocal supporter of the orchestra and its mission of community service. We, as a community and as individuals, are all the better because of Thelma’s ideals and character.

For well over 30 years she was conductor Jay Fishman’s, confidant and true inspiration, both for her outstanding musicianship, and also for unwavering commitment to quality music making and community service. Jay recalls that, “Thelma Hunter was a very special lady, and a very good friend. Her enthusiasm for life, music and in fact everything she did, was amazing. I feel that I was very lucky to know her, to work with her, and to enjoy her company. She was a real gem.”

To honor Thelma’s memory and her lasting contributions, the Minnesota Sinfonia will be dedicating its January set of Winter Concert Series to her memory. The concert will feature pianist Loren Fishman who, since they met 10 years ago, was greatly admired and encouraged by Ms. Hunter.

The program will include:
Overture to La Scala di Seta by Gioachino Rossini
Piano Concerto No. 1 by Ludwig van Beethoven, with Loren Fishman as the soloist
Sketches a new work by conductor/composer Jay Fishman
Wand of Youth by Edward Elgar

Performances will take place at Roseville Lutheran Church on Friday, January 15th at 7pm, and the Basilica of St. Mary on Saturday, January 16th at 2pm. There will also be a performance at the Paramount Theater and Visual Arts Center in St. Cloud on Sunday, January 17th at 3pm. Admission is free and children are always welcome to attend. Audience members should arrive early—all concerts are first-come, first-seated.
