)-- The Anoka County Government Center, located in Anoka, MN, recently underwent an elevator modernization of 4-elevators during Phase VI of a larger, 29-elevator modernization project. The Anoka County Capital Improvements Committee (ACGIC) hired well-known elevator consulting firm Van Deusen & Associates (VDA) to perform a complete evaluation and prepare specifications for the project.
ACGIC’s challenge was to complete each phase of the project in the least amount of time with a very focused effort on cost reduction. The solution was choosing very experienced and specialized contractors like Schumacher Elevator and G&R Custom Elevator Cabs who not only can bid competitively and work vigilantly–but also have positive reputations in the elevator industry.
Additional challenges specific to the four(4) elevator cabs in the Anoka County Government Center building included:
· Increasing the comfort of passengers by choosing materials that compliment visible spaces surrounding the elevators (public spaces & lobbies)
· Increasing passenger safety by modifying the structure to be compliant with current elevator safety code, which includes: accessibility for Americans with Disabilities (ADA), not increasing cab weight over 5% of the original weight, incorporating proper ventilation, meeting code required lighting illumination levels, and use of materials that meet or exceed the specific fire code ratings for elevator interiors
To alleviate the risk of adding additional expense to this tightly budgeted project, elevator consulting firm Van Deusen & Associates strongly recommended G&R Custom Elevator Cabs for elevator interior engineering design and manufacturing because of their long-history of providing accomplished engineering design, capability to produce a high-quality manufactured product, and commitment to customer support.
Elevator interior modernization projects involve a lot of communication between elevator contractors (who performs the installation), cab manufacturers (like G&R), facility managers (who oversee the project and communicate with building occupants), an owner or financial representative (in this case, it was Anoka County’s Project Manager, Jerry Covel), and an architect who is often involved serving as an owners representative.
Communication is never a challenge for G&R. Project Manager, Jerry Covel, said: “The staff at G&R provided great communication and because we were able to observe their finished work locally, we felt confident in their ability to complete this project for us.”
The Schumacher Elevator mechanic working on-site said, “G&R provided the cab interior components assembled as half-wall units (as we requested) because it’s really hard to move a fully assembled cab wall through an elevator door because it’s too large, and too heavy. The cabs look really nice and we installed them without any issues.”
G&R Custom Elevator Cabs is an Andover, Minnesota business and has been building custom and standard elevator cabs, cab interiors and components for new construction and modernization projects since 1978. To contact them call toll free: 877-603-5352 or email: mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org
