Online Furniture Retailer Cymax Adds to Its Executive Team

Cymax hires two vice presidents and a senior director to build its technology, marketing and data analytics capabilities.

San Francisco, CA, December 17, 2015 --( A Canadian online furniture retailer with a focus on technology has made three leadership appointments less than two months after a $25 million Series A round of financing.

Privately held Cymax, No. 216 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 Guide, says it has hired Rizwan Somji as is its vice president of technology, bringing 15 years of experience. Somji is the former co-founder and vice president of engineering for ResponseTek Networks, a customer experience management software company.

Grant McTaggart joins as vice president of merchandising and marketing, and was most recently a vice president at Best Buy Canada. “With deep knowledge of merchandising and consumer behavior, McTaggart will expand and diversify the company's furniture e-tail business with an increased focus on customer experience,” Cymax says.

Nathaniel Payne becomes Cymax’s senior director of data analytics. He most recently worked at digital data and analytics vendor Cardinal Path. “Payne's 15 years of experience in cloud computing and analytics will deliver new insights from Cymax's data to advance its technology and growth,” Cymax says.

Cymax said in October it plans to use the financing to offer e-commerce services to other online furniture retailers and that it will make available to other web merchants its predictive analytics expertise that helps it optimize the delivery of online orders.

Cymax, which expects to sell $140 million online this year and says it has grown 71% in the past five years, offers more than 75,000 SKUs and features goods from more than 300 North American manufacturers. data shows Cymax has grown at an annual rate of 8.4% over the past four years, to $127 million in sales in 2014 from $92 million in 2010.
