Dr. Hobo Jones wrote the novel as part of the National Novel Writing Month in 2007, producing a 50,000 plus word novel in the span of thirty days. Although no actual prizes are awarded, the feeling of accomplishment drives most writers to reach the requisite deadline in the allotted span of time.
"The Illuminated Memoirs of Abraham Lincoln" is based in San Francisco in the modern day, where many dead presidents are now alive and make their home. Abraham Lincoln, the main protagonist of the story, becomes embroiled in a power struggle by various secret societies, who want to shape the world in their own vision.
Dr. Hobo Jones says: "For a while, I didn't know where the story was going, only where the characters were going. It was like I was being taken for a ride. It wasn't until later on that I saw where the story would end up being, and I was delighted by how over the top and ridiculous the story felt. It is satire, after all."
