ObEN and TCL Join Forces At CES

Xess brings families together with ObEN’s deep learning based speech technology.

Las Vegas, NV, January 13, 2016 --(PR.com)-- After almost two years in stealth mode, Pasadena-based deep learning start-up ObEN will be joining forces with multinational electronics company TCL at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

ObEN has developed a proprietary deep learning-based speech technology that can create a person’s voice print in just a couple of minutes. The voice print can then be used to create new content in any language. Adam Zheng, co-founder and Chief Operation Officer of ObEN says, “We see ourselves as the speech engine of every “Internet of Things” device in the world.” At CES, the technology will be presented to the public via two mechanisms: through WeChat Robots which will be communicating with people in any desired voice or language and through TCL’s new product: Xess.

TCL’s new Xess is designed to bring families together. Dr Stan Hu, Head of CTO Office Director, and GM of BigPad BU said, “For us, this is a new category. We call it a BigPad.” Xess features a 17.3” screen, oct-core ARM 1.5 Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM, 32 GB flash drive, microSD and 2 USB ports. At the IFA consumer electronic show in Berlin, they revealed its gesture-control feature, essentially eliminating the need for a touchpad, mouse or keyboard. With ObEN’s voice technology, Xess will be able to speak in anyone’s voice whether it’s your own, a family member's, or a friend.

The merging of ObEN’s speech technology with TCL’s Xess, promises to be an exciting collaboration and shall be shown using a WeChat powered robot. WeChat, developed by Tencent, is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world and has 650 million monthly active users as of Q3 2015. It also has one of the highest engagement rates amongst the coveted 17-32 years old audience.
