NSC Does "The Great Pottery Throw Down"

Oswestry, United Kingdom, January 14, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Students from North Shropshire College’s (NSC) Art Department were inspired by the recent BBC series ‘The Great Pottery Throw Down’ and took part in a specialist pottery throwing workshop at NSC’s Oswestry Campus. Students from the BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and BTEC First Diploma Art and Design were taught specialist ceramic throwing techniques including how to prepare the clay and using the wheel to produce small vessels. Alongside learning new techniques, the students also had lots fun and soon realised it was harder than it looks!

Art lecturer, Kate Smallwood, who ran the workshop commented "This was a great opportunity to get the students more involved with clay, raising awareness of the importance of crafts in the UK today and the vital role it plays in art and design as a subject." Student Amy Goss who took part in the contest, commented "Having watched the series it was exciting to learn how to use the wheel to produce our own pieces, and from the workshop I have planned to develop my skills in a weekly lunchtime session, overall I really enjoyed the experience."
