Owen Paterson Visits NSC

Oswestry, United Kingdom, January 28, 2016 --(PR.com)-- North Shropshire’s Member of Parliament, Owen Paterson, visited North Shropshire College’s (NSC) Oswestry Campus recently. Mr. Paterson took part in a question and answer session with 100 students from Sociology, English, Maths, History, Science and Uniformed Public Services. Owen gave a brief talk about his job as an MP, his job before entering politics and his roles as Northern Ireland Secretary and DEFRA Secretary in the Cabinet. He now serves as a backbencher in the House of Commons, after leaving the cabinet in 2014.

Owen answered questions from students about the bombing campaign in Syria, the EU, his UK 2020 Group and local businesses. Owen also talked about local agriculture and his experiences in Northern Ireland as Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary and Northern Ireland Secretary and in DEFRA, and the current flooding in the North of England and Scotland.

Rupert Boyle, Head of Physical and Forensic Science at NSC, who invited Owen to the College, commented, "The students were fantastic and asked some excellent questions on topics ranging from flood defences and Europe to education and Syria. The questions were thoughtful and well asked and the group were interested to hear Owen’s answers and explanations, including why he had voted against lowering the voting age for the upcoming referendum on Europe. Owen was taken aback by how many students were juggling full-time education and a part-time job."
