Backyard Ponds and Waterfalls Expected to Continue Boom for 2008

Los Angeles Water Feature Company Reports Strong Growth in Backyard Ponds for 2007.

Los Angeles, CA, December 29, 2007 --( With a softening property value market, more and more people are putting their money into their existing homes rather than moving up. One of the biggest areas in terms of spending growth in recent years has been landscaping. According to the American Nursery and Landscape Association, US homeowners spent more than $11 billion in landscaping services in 2002 (the survey’s most recent year). That represents a 3x growth over the $3.6 billion spent on landscaping five years earlier in 1997.

One of the biggest segments of this industry is water features; ponds, backyard waterfalls and streams. California Waterscapes, a company that designs and builds water features around the greater Los Angeles area, and is the biggest water feature installer in the US, reported a 12% increase in their water feature installations in 2007 over 2006.

Terry Morrill, CEO of California Waterscapes ( stated “We are seeing more and more interest in backyard ponds each year. Fish ponds are also very popular and the fish often become a favorite hobby for the whole family. Years ago ponds were hard to maintain and required regular cleaning to get rid of all the muck that would build up at the bottom. But the new technology backyard ponds are ecologically balanced, look completely natural, are very low maintenance, and make for an excellent habitat for fish, turtles and other wildlife. These ponds are crystal clear and clean, and algae growth is controlled and not a problem. And these ponds can almost always be completely built in one day.”

California Waterscapes has been designing and installing beautiful and biologically balanced backyard ponds, streams, waterfalls and pondless waterfalls throughout Southern California since 2001. Terry Morrill is also owner of Pacific Pavingstone ( , a designer and installer of paving stone driveways, patios, pool decks and walkways in Southern California since 1999. The company has twice been included on the Inc 500 list of fastest growing companies, and is included on the most current Inc. 5000 list.
