Boston, MA, February 23, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Duo 2 (Peter H. Bloom, flute and Mary Jane Rupert, harp) have toured the globe in a collaboration spanning 25 years. The noted ensemble will perform European and American Masters: Chamber Music from the Old World and the New on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 7:00 pm at First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury, part of the Arts on the Green concert series. The concert will include Sonata in E-flat BWV 1031 by J. S. Bach; Beethoven’s Adelaide Opus 46 with variations; Fantaisie Opus 124 by Camille Saint-Saëns, and two works written for 2: Butterfly Effects (2008) by Elizabeth Vercoe and Play of Light (2010) by Richard Nelson. Elizabeth Vercoe, who will celebrate her 75th year in 2016, has been called “the most inventive composer working in America today” (The Washington Post). Richard Nelson’s music has been praised as “bold and highly satisfying” (The Portland Press Herald), and “intense… imaginative… profound" (All Music Guide).

Peter H. Bloom and Mary Jane Rupert have concertized across the world, with concert tours in New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and throughout the United States. They’ve been praised for “beautiful phrasing, consummate duet passages, superb technical facility” (St. Andrews Performing Arts) and called “the very best players playing at the height of their powers… able to communicate the inner depth and meaning, the imagination of the music.” (Dr. David Tattersall, University of Canberra College of Music, Australia). The Duo “2” is featured on the title track of the Navona Records CD, Kleemation and Other Works by Elizabeth Vercoe (“outstanding in every respect, an artistic masterwork” – Dr. Laura G. Kafka, IAWM Journal).

Peter H. Bloom (flute), whose playing has been called “a revelation for unforced sweetness and strength” (The Boston Globe), tours in North America, Europe and Asia; is featured on 40 CDs; serves on the faculty of Snow Pond Composers Workshop; is historical performance consultant to the Museum of Fine Arts Boston; and is a winner of the American Musicological Society’s Noah Greenberg Award. He is contributing editor for Noteworthy Sheet Music.

Mary Jane Rupert (harp), praised by The New York Times as exhibiting “indeed real sensitivity,” has performed throughout the world from Carnegie Recital Hall to the Beijing Concert Hall. She has appeared as concert pianist and harpist with symphony orchestras and chamber music groups across the United States. She teaches at Tufts University and Boston College and taught previously at MIT and Wellesley College, where she taught harp for 20 years.
