Centuries of Polish History & Heritage Under Threat

Ojai, CA, February 26, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The abrupt termination of Director Marek Trela from Janow Podlaski State Stud, Director Jerzy Bialobok from Michalow State Stud, and Chief Arabian Horse Specialist Anna Stojanowska from the Agricultural Property Agency in Poland has shocked the worldwide equine community. Although nothing is more synonymous with Poland, Polish Arabian Horses appear to be the first Polish cultural icons in grave jeopardy in Warsaw's current political climate. Having spent years in Poland documenting the history and legacy of the Polish Arabian Horse, Horsefly Films, join the equine community worldwide in urging everyone to join the letter-writing and petition campaigns imploring the new Polish government to reconsider its position and further, as a matter of great Polish national culture and heritage, to reaffirm its support and preservation of the State Studs of Poland.

For half a millennium, through the horror of two World Wars, the Bolshevik Revolution and years of Soviet-era oppression, Poland has worked tirelessly as stewards to produce inarguably the finest Arabian Horses in the world. Now they may not survive the current radical right political climate of their own free people, harkening an incalculable loss of intangible cultural heritage.

“I would have never believed that our Polish Arabian State Studs that survived two world wars and communism may get shut down in times of democracy and freedom,” former Director Marek Trela said.

The three individuals terminated have made immense contribution to the National Treasure that is the Polish Arabian Horse and have been an invaluable part of that worldwide effort for decades. Under their leadership the program has thrived economically. A flurry of petitions in Poland, the United States, the Middle East and elsewhere asking for their immediate reinstatement have surged since the announcement on February 19. Petitioners fear the global impact both economically and culturally for the breed. They have now scheduled a public protest in Warsaw, Saturday February 27th at 10AM at the Cavaliada, a huge international equine competition and trade show.

The Polish State Studs, officially founded 200 years ago, are not mere horse farms, but a living history and world-renowned institutions and repositories of Polish heritage and culture. The Polish Arabian has been a solace to Poland in times of great turmoil, a living reminder of man’s connection to loftier nature. They are revered around the world as great ambassadors for the Polish people. The annual Pride of Poland auction held at Janow Podlaski State Stud brings thousands of people from around the globe to bid millions of dollars on the horses. Last year’s auction was the most successful yet with over 40 million dollars paid. Longtime auction buyers include Shirley and Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones and many members of Mideast Royalty.

The world is now watching as the beloved State Studs’ future hangs in the balance. The petition can be found at:
