Welspun Renewables’ Builds-up Its Investments in Punjab, Expands Solar Portfolio

The latest 4 MW (AC)capacity is in addition to the 32 MW (AC) capacity that was commissioned last year. IPP will be cumulatively generating 54.37 million units of clean energy annually, and will offset 1,481,525 tonnes of CO2 emissions over the next 25 years in the state.

Mumbai, India, March 04, 2016 --( Welspun Renewables, India’s largest solar energy generator, has expanded it solar capacity in Punjab by 4 MW (AC). The latest addition comes close on the heels of its 32 MW (AC) Bathinda solar project. Committed to facilitating Punjab’s green energy transition, the two projects combined together will be annually feeding 54.37 million units of clean energy to the grid. Consequent to this, Welspun Renewables will be offsetting 1,481,525 tonnes of CO2 emissions over the next 25 years.

Mr. Vineet Mittal, Vice Chairman Welspun Renewables said, “We believe that it’s our responsibility to help India meet her development needs by integrating ecological sustainability. Sustainable development of the people can only be ensured if we focus on clean energy and move away from polluting energy sources. With each project the organization commissions; we are helping the country move closer to meeting its clean energy targets. Like all our projects before, this latest capacity addition too was commissioned well before the committed timelines. Given our engineering expertise, I am confident this project will be performing optimally. ”

Earlier this financial year, Welspun Renewables had commissioned state’s largest solar project of 32 MW (AC) capacities. Given its significance it was dedicated to the nation by Sardarni Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing, Government of India and Sardar Bikram Singh Majithia Hon’ble Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Government of Punjab.

In line with the government’s renewable energy initiatives, Welspun Renewables is well on target to commission 1000 MW of solar and wind power projects by the end of this financial year. They are currently present in 10 states across India. The organization has set a steady stream of benchmarks by commissioning some of the largest solar capacities the state territories have seen.
