Unity EDC's 2008 Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Weekend

Unity’s theme for the 2008 MLK, Jr. Celebration is “Empowerment - Being Great In 2008 – Positively Making History”

Brandywine, MD, January 04, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Unity Economic Development Corporation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Brandywine, MD. Unity’s mission is to “Promote Financial Empowerment and Community-Business Relationships.” Unity operates the HUD Homebuyers Education and Learning Program (HELP), conducts workshops, and provide one-on-one counseling sessions in financial literacy, money management, debt restructuring, foreclosure prevention and topics to prevent mortgage delinquency.

Unity offers several other programs, such as the Digital Empowerment Program, that provides computer and Internet training to Southern Maryland residents, and an annual Martin Luther King Day weekend celebration. Last year’s MLK event was a grand success, with workshops on Monday providing valuable information to over 100 participants.

Unity’s theme for the 2008 MLK, Jr. Celebration is “Empowerment - Being Great In 2008 – Positively Making History.” On Saturday January 19, 2008, Unity will host a Martin Luther King, Jr. Gospel Brunch with the gospel ministry of The Renewed Gospel Singers, the Gwynn Park High School Gospel Choir, a local gospel sensation called “Another Group”, and “Preacher Boy”, Minister Emmett Young III, from WHUR. The doors open at 9:30 AM and will be held at the Union Bethel Intergenerational Center (IGC) located at 3231 Brinkley Road, Temple Hills, Maryland 20748. The Sunday worship services at Union Bethel AME Church will promote the 2008 theme. Then on the Monday holiday, Unity will sponsor activities at Union Bethel AME Church located at 6810 Floral Park Road, Brandywine, MD 20613. There will be activities for teens, seniors, youth, men, women, and families designed to empower and enrich knowledge of history. Lunch will be provided and childcare services will be available for all Monday events.
