American Student Dental Association Elects 2016-17 Executive Committee and Speaker of the House of Delegates

Chicago, IL, March 14, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The American Student Dental Association’s House of Delegates elected its 2016-17 national president, vice presidents and speaker of the House of Delegates during its annual meeting in Dallas, Texas, on March 5.

Sohaib Soliman, University of Washington School of Dentistry ’17, was elected president. Soliman previously served as District 10 Trustee to the ASDA Board and also as District 10 Legislative Chair. At the University of Washington, he is the president for the dental class of 2017 and previously served as the UW ASDA community service chair. Prior to dental school, Soliman earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, where he was elected student body president. In addition to his extensive volunteer work with groups like the Hispanic Dental Association, the New Mexico Student Coalition, the Muslim Association of Puget Sound Youth Program and the Casa Latina clinic in Seattle, Soliman is an Eagle Scout.

“As president, I will continue to work my hardest to fight for all the issues facing our profession – such as decreasing student debt or eliminating unethical licensure exams – as I have done at the chapter, district and national levels,” said Soliman. “I believe that continuing as well as strengthening our relationship with the ADA, AGD, SPEA and other dental organizations is the key to both of our continued success and is crucial for accomplishing our goals.”

Also elected were ASDA’s Vice Presidents Aaron Henderson, University of Minnesota School of Dentistry ’18, and Jordan Telin, University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine ’17.

Henderson joined ASDA in 2014, and since that time has served the Minnesota chapter of ASDA as co-chair of publications and chair on licensure. He was elected class president for the dental class of 2018 and treasurer of the School of Dentistry Council of Students. In addition to serving one year as District 8 Trustee on the ASDA Board, he was an ASDA alternate delegate to the ADA’s House of Delegates meeting in November 2015. He has been actively involved with the Minnesota Dental Association, serving as student district delegate to the House of Delegates in September 2015 and two years as his class’ representative to the MDA’s New Dentist Committee.

In addition to one year as District 2 Trustee to ASDA’s Board, Telin served as president of the Buffalo ASDA chapter, class representative for the 2017 dental class and SPEA chair of communications. As an undergraduate student at Penn State, he was president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee and a member of the Student Government Association Treasury Allocation Board. He spent a summer volunteering at the Erie County Health Mall and traveled to the Dominican Republic as party of an international dental mission trip, helping provide dental care to more than 680 patients.
