)-- The American Diabetes Association has announced that Novo Nordisk and The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey have signed on as presenting sponsors of the 2016 Skylands Tour de Cure, which takes place on June 5 at the Basking Ridge campus of Verizon.
Both Novo Nordisk and The Horizon Foundation have teamed up with the Association in the New Jersey market on various corporate wellness initiatives throughout the year as part of Wellness Lives Here, a campaign aimed at corporate America that educates and motivates people to adopt healthful habits to reduce the impact of obesity and type 2 diabetes in the country.
The Association is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Tour de Cure. Since 1991, Tour de Cure riders have raised over $250,000,000 to help change the future of diabetes and help stop this devastating disease.
Cyclists from around the region will gather at one of four routes to participate in the event. Individuals and teams composed of co-workers, family and friends are taking the ride of their life by helping raise funds for the nearly 30 million Americans with diabetes. Tour de Cure is designed for riders of all levels. There are routes for the occasional cyclist to the experienced cyclists with trails from 13-mile family rides to 100-mile century rides. The route will feature rest stops with food to fuel the journey, volunteers to cheer riders on and Red Riders, cyclists who have diabetes, get VIP treatment. This year, for the first time, participants can choose to run a 3-mail trail course through the Verizon campus in support of the cause.
“The Tour de Cure is more than just a bike ride. It’s a celebration of hope and a chance to raise critical funds to help the Association continue the work it has been doing for over 75 years,” said Taran Connelly, Area Director for the Association. “We are thankful to The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey and Novo Nordisk for their support of the Tour de Cure because every dollar raised brings us that much closer to stopping this disease that affects so many in our own community.”
