RED Sushi Begins Construction on New Downtown Location

The new West Washington location at 316 W. Washignton Avenue offers a more upscale experience and cosmopolitan lounge.

Madison, WI, March 31, 2016 --(PR.com)-- RED, the #1 sushi restaurant in the city, is beginning construction on a brand new location at 316 West Washington Avenue. The new restaurant will be on the ground floor of the former AT&T building, which is undergoing a dramatic $30 million renovation by Hovde Properties. The new space will feature a unique contemporary design and the addition of a trendy cocktail lounge, which will have late night hours on weekends. It is planned to open in late summer and will replace the present operation at 106 King Street.

Tanya Zhykharevich and Jack Yip started RED nearly five years ago, occupying a modest space on King Street. Their reputation for creative, delicious, sushi rolls and a lively atmosphere quickly spread and it became popular amongst patrons seeking high-end sushi in a cozy space. Today, it is not uncommon to have to wait over two hours to get a table without a reservation.

“We have pretty much tapped out our current location, and needed to find a new space that would allow the business to better cater to our customers’ needs,” says Zhykharevich, one of RED’s owners. RED turned to Cresa, a national real estate brokerage firm, to search the downtown market for a space that met RED’s goals. “It was a thrill working with Tonya and Jack,” says Matt Apter, Managing Principal at Cresa. “They have a very clear vision for RED’s future and the new location will make their dreams a reality.”

The new space will be approximately triple the size of the present location, and will be divided into three distinct areas: a full-scale restaurant, a new cocktail lounge, and an outdoor patio that will be open during the summer months.

“When customers come to RED today, we can only take their name and suggest another nearby establishment to have a drink until we have a table ready. With the addition of our new lounge, we can offer our customers a cozy environment while they wait without sending them elsewhere.” The lounge will serve craft cocktails, a selection of fine wines and sake, and a food menu.

The restaurant portion will feature a contemporary design, more typical of big city venues. Elaborate interior accents, an exposed backlit wine collection, an open kitchen, and a special Chef’s Table will be just a few of the exciting new elements coming later this year to RED.

The new location is just a few blocks from the current, on the other side of the Capitol. “Red Sushi is an exceptional complement to the investment we’ve made to transform 316 into a modern, amenity-rich office building in the heart of downtown,” says Sean Robbins, Vice President of Development for Hovde Properties. Other nearby attractions include the Overture Center, State Street and the Wisconsin State Capitol. Ample parking is available in the nearby Dayton Street ramp.
